Mom & Her Five Kittens

The little fur balls are gone from my sisters home forever. They have become adorable, cute, and have developed individual personalities all their own. They are now eight weeks old, eat on their own, and are litter trained. They love to play with each other, jump on your leg and cry when hungry. If you'd like to see pictures of the kittens my son has some of them on his Flickr page here.

Mom and Kittens

The way this happened is my sister (Stella) went to PetCo in Muskegon, Michigan, and it just so happened that it was adoption day. She talked to a lady named Kim who runs a private shelter called Forever Pets. Kim took the mom and the kittens and my sister also donated to her shelter, because it is a good cause and they do a wonderful job.

This is a non profit no-kill private shelter and their pets are in foster homes until adopted. This way they can tell about the animals personality and traits and you can see the pet in friendly surroundings. If any of you bloggers know where Hesperia, Michigan is you can visit them at 4378 E. Arthur Road.

I hope that mom and the kittens get a good home. The mom cat was wild when Stella took her in. She belonged to a man that has too many kittens and cats and she just basically wandered the neighborhood. This creates a problem for the neighbors because all his cats live outdoors. I will miss the little kittens and mom. I was unable to take any of them because of money issues.

Hi Margaret...lovely story about the cat and her kittens. My two cats were found as kittens left in a park. It's terrible what people do to animals.

Good that your sister is doing well and that you were able to spend some time with her.

You asked about Benji the goose on my blog. His owner hasn't found him a home yet. He is still in my yard with the mallards until they leave. It's funny how you can become so attached to something like a goose. He really is very sweet. Thank you for asking about him...

I'm sorry that the kittens had to leave, but at the same time, I'm glad that they went to a no-kill place to be sdopted out. Here in Peru, there is no animal shelter...there was one once, not far from where I live now, but it folded up due to lack of community support. Almost no one here supports neutering of pets, which leads to an enormous population of dogs out on the streets.

Gail, I can totally relate to what you said there, "They make the best roommates; their love is for real and they don't pretend to be someone they're not."

I have had those types of people in my life as well (only of the female variety).

The kitten photos are so cute. They must have been very entertaining while you stayed with your sister. We're glad her back is doing better.

Thanks for visiting. My DIL "adopted" a momma cat who delivered six kittens just days after arriving. They were able to find lovely homes for each of the kittens. Aren't kittens so cute? ......and so much energy!!!!!

Hi Margaret:-)

Thank you so much for coming to my Halloween Bash yesterday, I do hope you had a fun time! I'm still recovering from it! lol

I just read with interest about the mama kitty and her kittens...I have a very similar story going on!! Back in February I started seeing this stray black & white kitty going to my compost pile every day looking for food. I started to leave food out for her and after about 5 months she started coming to the door begging to be fed. Meanwhile she's had 5 kittens and they were all hanging around here too. We managed to trap 3 of them a few days ago and brought them to the animal shelter. Being wild, I'm not sure if they'll be adoptable but I sure hope so, given time. We want to try to catch the mama and the other 2 kittens but I'm dreading it because I've really become attached to her. She now comes to eat treats out of my hand although she still won't let me pet her. I wish I could take her in but my husband won't hear of it. Phooey on him! lol We have such cold winters here, I hate the thought of her spending another winter out there, as well as the two kittens.

What an absolutely beautiful Mamma cat (and I'm sure the kittens are, too, but I can only see her face).

Also, I think you and your husband are beautiful, too. 49 years speaks volumes. You are very, very fortunate and blessed.

Many blessings to you,

That is such a pretty cat and the kittens are adorable. I have a black and white cat that comes to my house every day and sits in my backyard and chases birds. I think he is a male. He is so pretty and fat! I don't know if he catches the birds and eats them or just watches them. I have never seen him with one.

Sadly, Matt is allergic to cats. But I think they're the most beautiful animals! Wish I could adopt one, but Matt AND Mabel would have plenty objections to it. :)

Hello, Margaret... The kitties are just beautiful. We have a similar situation here in our neighborhood. We've just learned that a kitty who everyone thought 'belonged' to someone is actually a stray and a bit on the feral side. She had kittens about 4 months ago and now they are wandering around, also shy of people. The man whose house they 'hang out' at just confirmed on Halloween night that he doesn't want any of them. So I may have to see what I can do to try to capture some of them (one is already pregnant) as it's getting VERY cold here in New England. I don't know how good they'll do with people though, and that's where the problem lies. Well, I applaud all the love and attention you all gave to the kitties at your sisters. I'm sure they'll all be adopted out to good homes. Have a wonderful week...

Thanks for visiting my blog, Margaret. It was nice to hear that you could help your sister and that the kittens will soon have new homes. They sure can be sweet, can't they? I miss the happy greetings our dog used to give me when I came home from school. Take care!
