Remembering September 11 th, 2001

Early in the morning on September 11, 2001, nineteen hijackers took control of four commercial airlines en route to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Boston, Newark, and Washington, D.C.. At 8:46 a.m. American Airlines Flight 11 was crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower, followed by United Airlines Flight 175 which hit the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. Another group of hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. A fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, whose ultimate target was thought to be either the United States Capitol or White House, crashed near Shankville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m., after the passangers on board engaged in a fight with the hijackers.

During the hijacking of the airplanes the hijackers used weapons to stab and/or kill aircraft pilots, flight attendants and passengers. These reports came from phone call passengers made reporting what was going on. On Airline Flight 93, the black box recordings revealed that crew and passengers attempted to size control of the plane from the hijackers.

Three buildings in the World Trade Center Complex collapsed due to structural failure on the day of the attack. The attacks created widespread confusion among organizations and air traffic controllers across the United States. There were a total of 2,993 deaths, including the 19 hijackers: 246 on four planes (with no survivors), 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground and 125 at the Pentagon, 24 people remained listed missing. More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attack on the World Trade Center.

I think this is enough information, we all know the story, all of America and other countries were glued to their TV sets. I guess we all know where we were and what we were doing that day. The horror of that day still lives in the hearts of the American people, it is like a bad wound that won't heal up, our heartland was violated in such a way we have a hard time feeling safe in our homes and forgiveness towards those that created this wound.

PLEASE FLY THE AMERICAN FLAG===THIS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 11th===GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND THAT WE LOVE.

I will always remember 9/11 2001, why? I was at the cemetary placing flowers on my husbands' grave when I heard the news of what was happening in the US, You see my husband passed away on 9/11/98.
I was horrified that "Human Beings" could do such awful things to innocent people. I can't comprehend what the friends and relatiions have gone through over the years losing loved ones that way, I knew my husband was going to pass away and the feelings I felt were bad enough.
To all Americans everywhere I will be thinking of you.

Yvonne.

Dear Margaret, yes it was something horrible. We will be flying our flag. But the worse part was the showing, over and over of this happening. We pulled together and united like Americans should.

But I honestly think the way so many Americans are thinking right now, if this would happen again, would they all pull together? The public schools, in our area anyway, didn't let the children see the President's speech about staying in school and getting a good education. Yesterday the Granddaughter brought home a slip, stating if the parents DO NOT want their child to view the video, please return the slip, they are going to show it this Friday, the 11th. But the same schools showed the disaster of 9/11, which had to scare the small children. Good grief it even scared me. So where do school systems use common sense? They have always shown past Presidents that give speeches to school children. Something just isn't right. I don't care if he's white, black, red or yellow, man or woman, he's the President and he should be shown some respect.

I'm sorry I got off the subject. We will be flying our flag like always. Have a great week-end, which is just around the corner.

It was an unprecedented event for the entire world, but the repercussions, the reactions, and the longer-term influence it has had on government, economy, culture, travel and people's attitudes has had the most profound effect on everyone's lives. It was the day the world changed forever.
