My Back Yard

My Backyard
Our wonderful backyard.

I love all the animals and birds that come to eat at the feeders. I would like to share some of the goings on.

The Squirrels are fun to watch as they chase one another away from the food. Two of them come right up on the window seal and look in the window, they want their peanut. One of them stands up with his little hands stretched out, but he won't take it from your hands. I have two little chipmunks also, little feed stealer s.

Black Squirrel
One of my cute little black squirrels.

Nuthatch
Our friendly neighborhood nuthatch.

Morning Dove
We have lots of morning doves.

Hawk
My son captured this beautiful hawk.

Chipmunk
Our chipmunk on his usual spot.

Blackjacket
We have many bees, including these blackjackets.

Pink Daisy Flower
One of my many flowers in the yard.

Sunflower
We have sunflowers, too.

I have a Red Headed Woodpecker that I actually call him (I call him Woody) and he comes to the yard and I throw him a peanut and he flys down and gets it. I hear him in the neighborhood making his sound and I call to him and he comes. The birds called Titmouse come when they hear me calling Woody and I throw them peanuts and they come down and take it and fly away, this is so amazing.

My Ducks come and eat the corn and to get a drink. This one Duck brought her four babies and they all had something to eat. Now the amazing thing about this is, she brings her babies from a pond about a block away. They come through the woods and across our street, around the house to the back where the food is. She has been doing this now for three weeks. Sadly for the first three days she was minus a duckling each day until she has only one left. I am hoping this little guy stays alive.

If you have an amazing back yard animal or bird story, I would like to hear about it.

I enjoyed reading about your pleasant backyard. My backyard is my favorite place to be in the whole world - I love it. The only sentiment I don't share is that any squirrels around our neighborhood are pests - they tear up electrical systems, bite through into attic spaces, and dig up plantings in the flower pots, so I don't feed them as I don't want them in my yard. :o) Glad that they are enjoyable for you though. ♥

I do love the bird watching - that's my favorite and I have a feeder where many different varieties of songbirds frequent. My parents have a hummingbird feeder out next door in their yard and the hummingbirds come to our yard as well, enjoying our flowers.

Hi Margaret, Living out here in the country and lakeside you can imagine the critters we have visit. It's time for the turtles to lay their eggs now and we see huge...and I mean huge turtles, slowing making their way around the yard. We have found where they lay their eggs as far away as 1/2 mile from the lake and then they slowly make their way back down to the lake. Later in the summer we will find baby turtles in the pool trying to make their way to the lake. We always help them along. :)

What a great back yard you must have! I was taking our Basset outside early one spring morning. When I opened the back door, there was a huge raccoon holding the dog food dish at an angle with one paw and putting food in it's mouth with another. All three of us froze for what seemed like a full minute before it bolted and the dog started the chase. It ran across the yard and under the fence. Too funny!

I enjoyed a lot reading your wonderful description about your lovely backyard. I feel like visiting your place. I love to watch squirrels as they do so many things by running from one tree to another, jumping here and there, searching for food, playing with each other etc. In my apartment, there is a very beautiful garden and lots of squirrel can be seen.

More good stories Margaret. I love hearing about all the animals. I have a pair of Baltimore orioles that come for grape jelly, and when the dish is empty, the male sits on the window hummingbird feeder and pecks on the window to let me know he wants more jelly. He does this every year too.

That is so cool that you have so many wildlife animals around you. The dogs keep the animals out of the yard around here!
I do see a pair of Bluebirds hanging around the front yard. I do love watching them and other ones.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Deb :)

Hello Margaret:)

Very interesting information. I always wanted to keep a feeder in my small back yard. But next to my compound wall there is a huge vacant plot with plenty of trees. I see all sorts of birds but the vast majority of them are crows. Sometimes I sit in my veranda and much some eats and keep throwing them in the yard. The crows rush and eat them and other birds keep away. I hope one day I will be able to capture all the birds and animals which are living the next compound and post them.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very interesting post Margaret.

Best wishes to you and your family:)
Joseph

Dear Margaret ~~ How lovely to watch the squirrels and birds in your back yard. How nice that the birds come when you call them.
I only feed wild birds - sparrows,
pigeons and blackbirds.
Thank you so much for the b'day greetings. I had a great week and the flowers are beautiful, I was
very spoiled. Sorry you had computer problems and glad they are fixed. Take care, my friend.
Love, Merle.
