Nat. Comm. for Soc. Security

President Roosevelt promised retired Americans freedom from poverty-ridden old age when he created the Social Security system in 1935.

The frightening state of our economy-- more than two years of recession!-- has underscored the importance of this promise, as deficit reduction measures could result in dangerous cuts to our entitlement programs, and fracture benefits. Your help is needed now to defend Social Security and Medicare for seniors today and tomorrow.

Today the political climate in Washington reveals many elected officials determined to change the Social Security system and the Medicare program. Some of them may even consider radiccal changes that would undermine future benefits.

That is why it is so important for everyone to stand up and join with millions of American seniors to defend the Social Security and Medicare benefits that are invaluable to you. All of us seniors have received this petition in the mail.

I am a senior, so please sign the enclosed Petition to Congress of the United States, addressed to the special attention of your United States Senators and Representative. Your elected representative in Congress must hear from you. You seniors that are reading this has received this same message., I sent mine in.

The National Committee in 2010 fought to ensure Medicare was improved and strengthened as part of the health care reform bill. After a historic battle succeeded in getting legislation signed into law that lowers beneficiaries' out of pocket costs the Part D prescription drug "donut hole," and strengthened the Medicare Program.

I write this because I am afraid the Social Security program is in peril and fear for the out come and also fear for our future generations to come. It seems our country is turning upside down and this is because we spent too much money on other countries and ours is left to fend for ourselves.

I'm right there with you Margaret. (And I pleased you will be trying the home made laundry detergent out. I did have a time trying to find the washing soda but it should last me for a long time)

Dear Margaret ~~ Good luck with the fight
for social security and also Medicare. I
hope your country can retain both these necessary helps to the seniors and the
disadvantaged. Ours is pretty good in
Australia, thankfully.
I am glad you enjoyed the jokes on my post.
Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

Dear Margaret,
I share your concerns. Though I will never receive Social Security, since I've never worked outside of the State University Retirement System (we don't pay into Social Security and I don't have credits built up), but we do pay into Medicare. Instead, I'm relying on my University pension as that's where I'll have 30 years in. It's worked well for my Dad, also retired from here. But... still concerned for the future of this nation, very, very much in all ways.
Blessings to you for being proactive. :)

I, too, share your concerns about Social Security in this country. I am afraid for our children and grandchildren and their retirement and the senior citizens of today. Great post.

Hi Margaret:)

Greetings and good wishes.

I am very concerned about your worries.A government is for the welfare of the people whether they are young or old. While most of the spending goes on employment generation, infrastructure, science and technology, defense etc. nothing is done to look after the interests of senior citizens. The senior citizens are a neglected lot all over the world. Obama was elected by the American people who thought he was a panacea for all ills. I wonder what he can show as his achievement. Poor show indeed as far as senior citizens are concerned.

Best wishes Margaret:)
Joseph

The idiots elected their kin and now we got congressional idiots whose duty is to destroy American and leave it a run of the mill third world country. I hope the know, if they got any brains at all, that screwing around with these programs will result in the party being over forever. I am thankful I have a gun and would use it to keep what I got and it is more than some people might want. Just because I paid for and am getting social security and medical benefits, is not going to make me happy if some idiot in a business suit takes it all away. I hope People wake up before they die in their sleep, a program recommended in lieu of social security and medicaid is already in the works.
