Picnics

I came across this little ditty and thought you may enjoy it. Hope you all are having a nice summer and are not too sunburn. Also hope you are able to take some time to rest up and enjoy yourself, believe it or not summer is half over. Has any of you ever had something unusual happen at a picnic?

Sunshine and wieners and pickles and ham
not enough salt for the eggs,
Marshmallows cooked on the end of a stick,
ants crawling over our legs.
Candy and cookies and peanuts and cake,
finding the frosting has run,
All of us knowing we've eaten too much--
Picnics are certainly fun.

Hi Margaret, I love picnics. I used to take my kids on picnics all the time when they were little and my parents used to take me and my sister on picnics. I thought fried chicken on a picnic tasted so much better than any other time. Great poem. Have a good weekend.

Sounds like a Family Reunion, always way too much food and everyone eats more than they need, but it is so good. LOL

We don't have anything planned for the week-end. Daughter and Granddaughter living with us plan on spending the week-end at her ex-mother-in-laws, to watch her St. Bernard. She wanted our daughter to stay for ten days, and she explained that was just too much, plus it was further to drive to work and she would either have to leave her daughter with us, or leave earlier to drop her off her before she went to work, so her ex found a neighbor that will let the dog out several times a day and at bedtime. Except for this week-end, they had planned on being gone. So she needed someone, our daughter explained she wouldn't be there until Sat. morning and leaving Sunday evening. The neighbor gets home late Sunday night. I always find it amazing what some ex in-laws still expect from someone. But then I don't have any ex in-laws, so I don't know what they act like. LOL

Hope your computer has been doing ok. You guys stay cool. We've got a heat wave warning until 10pm.

Love the poem. It brings back memories of when I was younger. I always looked forward to the picnics each year. Bugs didn't bother me when I was a youngster, but now I can't stand them.

Nice poem. I am like Patty. It reminds me of a family reunion of some sort.

Hey Margaret, No...Bobby G. wasn't sunburned. He gets dark brown. It seems as soon as he goes out in the Spring with the warm sunshine he tans. Me....nope...I just burn. So I mostly stay in the shade. By the end of the summer I have a little tiny tan.

When I was little we used to go to this park for picnics on Sundays after church. Our preferred spot was at the bottom of this hill. I adamantly refused to ride down and back up that hill in the car. I thought the hill was so steep and that the car would flip over. So my parents would let me get out and walk. I went back to that picnic spot after I was grown and the hill is not steep at all! But I guess as a child it looked straight up and down to me. Have a super great weekend Margaret. xo Lynn
