To Be A Child Again

Children run and laugh and play, placing no importance on why you even go away. They are in another world, of comic strips, potato chips, ice cream, coke and bubble gum. Oh, how I envy little kids and wish that I were one. Oh, what I would give, if only I could be a child again.

The rain goes on and on, seen no sunshine for so long and it keeps raining, raining, in the world I'm living in. Oh, what I would give to be a child again. Children laugh and play like it is not even raining and they would be laughing even in the middle of a storm. They think I've lost my mind I bet, I call them in and they are not even wet, it seems so cold to me and yet somehow they stay so warm. Oh, what I would give to be a child again.

This song was written by Anita Carter, born in 1933 in Meces Springs, Virginia. Her sister was June Carter Cash, June married Johnny Cash. Anita was born into the Carter family, they were the first family of Country music, her mother was Mother Maybelle Carter, who is in the Country/Western music Hall of Fame. Anita had fifty years of recording and preforming on stage. She died in 1999 at the home of Johnny and June Cash in Tennessee. Anita was known as the"Application Angel", they said she had the most beautiful voice of any female country singer.

Being a child is so nice and innocent. No cares, really, in our world, but being a child in some other worlds turns out to be a kind of hell. Your description of June and Johnny Cash brought back lots of memories. Anita was one year older than me. She would be 76 now.

By the way, Patty, my wife of 55 years, has a blog. She'b be tickled pink if you showed up.

Margaret, you always have the most interesting post! My DH is not a big music man but he watched that Johnny Cash movie over and over.

Interesting blog post today. I never followed the Carter family, but, I do know who they are. I guess we all knew Johnny and June Cash the best. They were quite a nice couple, and I watched the movie also. Thanks for sharing that song, I never heard it before, but the words are so cute.

Dear Margaret ~~ Good post as usual - you always post such interesting things. I was
a great Johnny Cash and June and the Carter family fan. Most kids have a wonderful life in America and Australia. Not so good in some countries where they have to work and are ill-treated.
I am glad you enjoyed my jokes and leave my blog with a smile. Thank you for that my friend. Love, Merle.

Loved the poem. I remember the Carter family and the mother. I loved watching and listening to them all. They were all so talented. June and Johnny were two of my favorite country singers.

Hello Margaret:)

Very interesting post. When we grow old we always think of our younger days. The days of unbridled fun, merriment, laughter, joy and thrill. Life was very exciting, no cares in the world, we lived for the moment.Any small thing made us happy and we giggled very often.Every thing was full of surprises,we wanted to explore,we wanted to find out and know things.

As we grew older those little things which had great attraction for us holds no longer any charm and mystery for us. Every thing becomes routine, monotonous devoid of thrill and excitement. What has gone wrong? Has the world and everything in it changed? No, nothing has changed. Only we have changed. Why we can't dance in the rain? Why we can't laugh like before? Why we can't find enjoyment in little things of life? We have to give up our false notions and ideas, prejudices and negative attitudes which has been built into us over a period of time by our elders, community and the nation.

Your interesting post Margaret is thought provoking and food for thought and meditation. It reminds me that we should never give up our childhood curiosity, excitement, wonder and awe at the smallest of small things.

Best wishes:)
Joseph

Dear Margaret, thanks for your visits. I told Abe, you've been coming to my blog for some time. Apparently he didn't realize that.

Loved the song, I wonder what the music sounded like. The words are very nice. I'll have to look it up on the computer to see if anyone made a record of it. Thanks for sharing. Yes to be a little kid again for a couple of days, would be nice. But I don't think I would want to go through my whole childhood again.

Have a wonderful week-end. It's half over all ready. Your blogging friend, Patty
