Importance of Drinking Water.

This is why you should drink water daily. I am also guilty of not drinking enough water.

1. 75 % of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of dieters , a study conducted at the Univ. of Washington.
5. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of suffers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

This is amazing what not drinking water can do to the human body. Water is essential for all life to exist, as it makes up more than 70% of most living things. While a humans can live a week without food but a person will die within a few days without water. Water helps the body maintain a constant temperature by acting as a thermostat.

I am the world's worse at not drinking enough water. I try real hard but it's just very hard to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Just reading that it helps back pain makes me want to try even harder to drink more. Margaret, you always have the most interesting posts to read. :)

Hello Margaret, I have been drinking 8 glasses of water for the past few years. It started when I was in Spain and the weather hotter than I was used to. When I came back to the UK I have ke[t it going,
It's true what you say about it stops hunger pangs.

Thank you for your visit and lovely comments, Yes I was tired on the photo as I was up at 5.30am and the photo was taken at 1pm and I'd been shopping also.

Have a good week.
Yvonne.

I drink my water each day. It is my main drink of the day. However, thank you for the reminder, I will be good and go have another glass of water right now.

I absolutely love this post!! Thank you for this interesting information which I plan to impliment more of. A nurse told me once that I was really in need of much more water and that basically yes, I was dehydrating myself. I'm just not often thirsty, but I find when I start drinking water, I can easily drink more and more. You've given so many good reasons to do so - thanks for the helpful information!! :)

I love water and drink heaps of the stuff each day. Good post, though, as a lot of people don't drink nearly enough water (coffee doesn't count).

Terrific post, Margaret! I needed this reminder. I find myself more thirsty here in Hawaii than in Illinois.

Teachers are notorious for not drinking water because we couldn't leave the classroom to go to the bathroom.

I certainly need to drink more water. Thanks for reminding me and all the great info. here. I do think it keeps us from getting hungry at night because I usually eat early and try not to snack in the evenings. Great post.

Dear Margaret ~~ I enjoyed your last couple of posts as well as this one about water.
It is so important and I drink quite a few glasses a day, as I don't drink tea or coffee. I also drink fruit juice and cordial.
Thank you for your comments and I am happy to stay in my home, though I did think of moving into a unit and asked for the test.Happily, no Alzheimers. The winter has come too soon, hasn't it?
Take care my friend, Love, Merle.

I would like to add to this the problem of kidney stones. Those who have a tendency for stones should take more water( About 3 liters per day).Dehydration is a major reason for recurrent stones. It is also important in constipation.

I try to drink plenty of water. Especially on days when I am sweating, like mowing and etc. And then in the evening I keep a big insulated glass of cold water by me and also during the night. Happy week-end.

Hello Margaret:)

Very useful and informative post. Most of us are guilty of not drinking enough water.

In fact, when I was talking to a friend of mine at a get together to day, he was telling me that he drinks three glasses of water the first thing in the morning and they only he drinks tea.I thought this was a wonderful suggestion to increase the intake of water.

Your post is a motivation and an eye opener to drink more water.

Best wishes Margaret:)
Joseph
