Healing Powers of Vinegar

I was reading this article about the healing power of vinegar, something I seldom use. So I thought I would post about it and see what you think. I think I should start using more vinegar.

You have always known that vinegar tasted great on your French fries and made your glassware sparkle, but I bet you didn't know the intense healing powers of this magic liquid.

Vinegar has been a trusted home remedy that our mother, grandmother and their grandmothers have known. It literally can be used from head to toe. Scalp problems such as dandruff, athlete's foot, yeast infections, even headaches are no match for this remedy. It can also be used as a cosmetic to help protect and beautify the skin. In The Healing Powers of Vinegar, author Cal Orey reveals the secret healing powers of red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar and other natural vinegars.

No single food or supplement can prevent cancer, amazingly however, vinegar is considered a "weapon" against cancer according to scientists at the A.P. John institute for Cancer Research.

New evidence shows that both apple cider and red wine vinegars, which are made from whole apples and red grapes, may help you to==fight fat, enhance your immune system, lower blood pressure, prevent cancer, slow aging process and more.

This doesn't surprise me, I think nature has given us her bounty of fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices and roots to help us fight off certain diseases and illness. But do we trust mother nature enough, no, we run to the doctors for pills and shots to heal us. What if and this is a big "if," that all our ills can be treated without medicine, I mean let nature take its course. There are many articles that tell you how to do home remedies and you can go on line to explore every new find for yourself.

I think we should start listening to the people that take time to discover cures that our doctors don't believe in. There is too much money to be made by doctors and pharmacists, so they give pills not cures. We live in an age of miracles and discoveries of all kinds. We have a wonderful computer that can give us the world at your keyboard, use it and see what is going on especially in medicine.

My Father tried drinking a little a couple of times a day, according to his doctor at that time, it was suppose to help his arthritis. But according to Mam and Dad it didn't quite work. I have a feeling he didn't use it long enough. I know when my stomach use to get upset, the first thing I wanted to eat was dill pickles, and sometimes I would even take a small spoonful of the juice and it did seem to settle the stomach. Even today if we go someplace for breakfast and get sausage gravy with biscuits, I ask for some pickles on the side.

We use rice vinegar quite a bit in Japanese cooking, but I had no idea what good properties cider vinegar had. I've never had it with French fries either. I love learning things from blogs.

Vinegar kills fungus so it is definitely a good thing. But it is an acid and should be used with care. Our bodies' ph levels are sensitive. Too much acid (vinegar) may be bad just like too much alkaline (backing soda) can be bad. Coral calcium is another natural health goodie according to the web. We could spend many hours learning. The beauty of all this is each of us has to find a personal balance. We are quite unique. I add a bit of vinegar to lentil soup to give it a bit of a kick.

Very interesting post Margaret, I have heard before about vinegar, here in the UK there was even a book about the benefits of it.

Thanks for your visit and comments.

Have a great week.
Yvonne.

Dear Margaret ~~ A very interesting post
(as usual) You come up with great topics.
I used to have cider vinegar regularly in
apple juice. Must do so again as I believe it is good for many things.
Thank you so much for your concern and prayers for the awful floods we are having
in Australia. Some people have lost everything as well as some lives (20)
Glad you liked the joke about the teacher and the boots. It made me laugh, with all
the sadness around, it helped.
Take care dear friend, Love, Merle.

I have a little book all about the powers of vinegar. I keep a big jug of it upstairs in the laundry area. :)

Vinegar is always a staple in our home. I once had a patient that swore that honey, vinegar, and warm water drank once a day took the pain of arthritis from her hands, and she could one again move her fingers.
Thanks again Margaret for stopping by and for your kind and encouraging words.

I like vinegar on my FF. That's about it for me, unless I am making pickles.

It's interesting that you bring this up, Margaret, as when I was suffering from a severe viral infection during November and December and had no voice for a month, along with a horrible, Pneumonia-like cough, I was desperate for relief and for my voice to come back that I started turning to natural cures that I read about online and vinegar was one of them. A tablespooon of Apple Cider Vinegar a few times a day, to supposedly cure the vocal chord injury. I did it for over a week and I don't really know if it helped or not, though at the time, I thought it did. Eventually my voice returned, but it could have just been that the virus had finally run its course.

:)

Happy Wednesday and hope the rest of your week is grand.

My dad was a great believer in turpentine especially in his homemade salves. Turpentine and lard and that is all I remember.

Hello Margaret,

Your right about doctors and pharmacists. They want to make money and they don't care about patients.

I don't use vinegar. Now that you have said such good things about it I think I should start using small quantities in cooking.

Thanks for bringing such useful information.

Best wishes,
Joseph

Amen, Margaret! I love finding things that are useful or good for you besides taking pills and visiting doctors. Thanks for telling us about vinegar. I am a big believer in cinnamon, honey, and sorghum molasses, too. Have a good weekend.

We have so many time tested home remedies, which are useful.
But,to mention them as cures for illnesses like cancer, would be an exaggeration.

Wonderful blog. Informative. Vinegar also brings fever down. I remember Mom wet a piece of cloth in vinegar and put it on kid brother's hot forehead one night long ago. The fever went down surprisingly.
