Remember These!

Cassette Recorder
One of the first portable Cassette Recorders from Philips (1968)

I just bought a cassette player off ebay and was thinking of all the different forms over the years I have played music on. So I am listing just a few forms we all have used over the years. All of my young life my music was the record player, I still play records that I have kept over the years and I do pick up the oldies at garage and estate sales

CASSETTE PLAYERS==between the 1970s and 1990s the cassette was one of the two most common formats for prerecorded music , first alongside the LPs and later the Compact Disc. In 1958 RCA Victor introduced the stero, it was big 5" x 7", but offered few pre-recorded tapes despite multiple versions, it failed.
THE WALKMAN==is a Sony brand trademark, Sony began selling them in 1979. The CD based Walkman was launched in 1984, it was officialy called the Discman. Sony still makes the CD Walkman, they have become thinner and more compact with each new version.
THE 8 TRACK==was popular from mid 1960s through the late 1970s..

These are just a few of the old ones we used and loved. There have been many, many new improved items invented over the years. Our TV has become a home entertainment center, and we can enjoy movies with the VHS, and the DVD and please lets not forget the cell phones that do everything that all the above mentions.

Hi Margaret, Good post! One of my fondest memories is standing in a chair so I could reach our cabinet model record player. I would play Tweedle O Twill by Gene Autry, over and over. Sweet memories of days gone by. Gerry

Hi Margaret,

Your post made me walk down my memory lane. How many things we have bought and replaced because something new has come into the market.

Now mobile phone is taking over everything. I remember decades ago my friends and I stood around a transister radio and listening to music. Times have changed and many changes have come into our lives. We have been adapting ourselves to every change because we know that if we don't change we will be left far behind.

Best wishes,
Joseph

Oh I remember them well... The 8 track was something else, big and bulky. Our teen-age son at the time, bought one and put it in our car at the time, We thought it was the cat's meow. ; )

Oh yes, I remember all those but I had to content myself with simply looking at them through the store window on display. Loved music then and so much more now with my portable cd player. Music indeed calms the heart and soul.

Have a blessed week. God bless.

yes thats true, a Cassette used to be a very important medium...now C.D.'s have come in the scene, though theyre not as durable, as they are not scrach resistent...

I sure do remember those and enjoyed reading about the shopping carts, too. I guess I am showing my age but the older things seemed so much simpler and I know they were easier to operate! Have a Happy Valentine's Day!

Yes, very cool, I do remember. :) And as for records, we still buy them ALL the time. We have a wonderful local record store and even our 15-year-old daughter adores records and buys them. It's amazing how well the records hold up - my husband still has his original collection. I've bought brand new cds that skip on the first usage and these old records, just play and play. :)

Happy Valentine's Day! ♥

Records (vinyls) are back. So are record players. I remember the 78 rpm records, then came the 45' and 33's and long plays. Now it's itunes and ipods and yes on phones. The downside is that people are not using them wisely and people are getting hurt in a variety of ways. That's a different post.

Hasn't technology changed over the years and so quickly too! Now it's all digital this and that.

I have a new blog now so I hope I'll see you there.

The walkmans seem like just yesterday. I cherished my little transistor radio in high school. We just bought an old slide projector off of ebay for a project my husband is working on. :)

We had one once that looked very much like your photo. We don't have any recorder any longer. I have a radio that's made to look like an old radio from the 1930 era, and it will take small tapes, which I have a set of old radio shows. Then our one daughter got me a set of DVD's and she said I could put them on my computer and listen to them while I do something else on the computer. Haven't tried it yet. Thanks for all your visits. Did Abe get me something nice for Valentines day, so, we don 't bother getting each other anything anymore. Another daughter brought us each a heart shaped box of locally made chocolate candies. Ester Price, made in Dayton, Ohio, they are so good.

Remember them! I probably still have one out in the garage somewhere. I think I'll take it on Antiques Roadshow to see what its worth? :-)

Take care and have a great weekend :-)

I remember all of those too. I find it hard to keep up with all the new technology, it seems like I just learn how to use one and then a new one comes along! Ha!
